In honor of Indigenous Peoples Month, the Center for Native Peoples and the Environment hosted ‘Feast and Film’ – a screening of the film Inhabitants and a panel featuring Sloan Scholars discussing their reflections on the film. Despite the tremendous storm outside, nearly 30 people gathered to watch the film, eat traditional Haudenosaunee food prepared by Angela Ferguson (Onondaga Nation), and learn from the Sloan Scholars. In a wide-ranging discussion moderated by Center faculty member Dr. Stewart Diemont, scholars reflected on the diversity of Indigenous land-tending practices showcased in the film, as well as issues of cultural appropriation and how non-Indigenous people can best show up as allies in the work of biocultural restoration.
