The Center celebrated the end of the Fall 2022 semester, as well as the graduation of Sloan Indigenous Graduate Partnership scholar Spencer Lone Fight (Citizen of the Mandan Hidatsa Arikara Nation, MPS), with a gathering at our firepit and healing circle located at the Lafayette Rd. Experimental Station. Center Director Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer presented Lone Fight with a traditional blanket in commemoration of his graduation. All present – including the entire cohort of nine Sloan Indigenous Graduate Partnership scholars, as well as Center staff and faculty – shared words of appreciation to Lone Fight as well as to Research Project Assistant Sarah Howard, who is graduating with an MS and will be continuing their work with the Center as a part-time staff member during the Spring 2023 semester. In recognition of Howard’s work with the Center, the group presented them with a beautiful ceramic bowl. Following the graduation ceremony, staff and students huddled around the fire to share a meal of hot corn soup and tea and celebrate the end of another successful semester.
